Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Considers DIGITA to Tackle Cyber Fraud

The RBI is thinking about launching a Digital India Trust Agency (DIGITA) to combat illegal lending apps and cyber fraud. DIGITA's purpose would be to check digital lending apps, maintain a public list of approved ones, and promote transparency and accountability in this sector. India has seen a rise in cyber fraud, prompting the RBI to work with the IT Ministry and Google to validate legitimate lending apps and remove unauthorized ones from Google Play Store. DIGITA's responsibilities would include verifying these apps to ensure they comply with RBI regulations, maintaining a public list for consumers' convenience, and labeling apps without DIGITA's approval as unauthorized for law enforcement purposes.
